FAQ

What is the V-bar made of? Is this a quality product?

Our V-bar is made of rustproof aerospace grade aluminum and stainless steel fasteners.  Vs are padded with thick closed cell dense foam and covered with high quality outdoor fabric.  Most materials are sourced in Canada.

We bring together mechanical engineering and product design backgrounds combined with a passion for paddling.  We understand what makes a great carrier.  Our racks are built with attention to detail and we take pride in offering a great product and an excellent customer service.

What are the advantages of V-bar rack compared to other more affordable alternatives, such as foams, saddles and J-racks?

Some considerations:

How does the V-bar compare to a sling rack?

Sling racks require tight strapping to prevent the boat from moving back and forth. Sling racks are not designed for boat sliding.  V-bar cradles do not move back and forth.

What type of boats can I carry on a V-bar?

The V-bar works well for most skinny boats, including sprint kayaks, sprint canoes, surfskis, touring kayaks, outrigger canoes and rowing sculls.

Does the V-bar rack work with hard chine hulls?

The V shape works best for soft chine hulls.  Hard chine hulls require cradle customization, which we do upon request.

How high is a V-bar?

The Vs are 11 1/2 inches high.  The actual height may vary slightly, depending on the inclination of the tube.

What level of customization do you offer?

We customize tubes, cradles and mounts.

What is the right tube length for me?

It depends on the boat length and the vehicle size.  For shorter vehicles, a 7ft tube allows more space for the rear gate to open.   In terms of boat length, 8 ft is more suitable for longer boats.  Shorter tubes are easier to move around and store.

What are the V angle options?

Narrow Vs are typically used in the front.  Wide Vs allow are typically used in the back.

Should I get removable Vs?

Removable Vs are a great option for low ceiling garages and for quick storage.   For shorter vehicles, a removable rear V may allow the rear gate to open fully.

Which type of mount should I use?

We provide mounts that will fit your crossbars.  We customize them if your crossbars are not standard.

What are slide socks?

They are outdoor fabric coverings on the back Vs for sliding the boat up smoothly.

What type of crossbars should I get?

We recommend getting sturdy and rigid crossbars.

How much weight can it carry?

The weight capacity is sufficient for any performance kayak or canoe in the market.

How do I tie the boat?

We recommend using high quality straps around the Vs, which come with a lip for quick strapping.  For extra safety, we recommend looping around the crossbars as well.

How do I position the boat on the rack?

We position the foot board or the front of the cockpit right above the front cradle.

Do you ship?

We ship across Canada at a competitive rate.

Do you provide any warranty?

We offer a one-year warranty for manufacturing defects.
